One Ingredient Simple & Effective Homemade Deodorant

If you follow my Facebook page, a while back I posted about using natural alternatives to chemical deodorants. I know some of you might think I'm insane for obsessing over such things. I just like using as less chemicals on my skin as possible.

And, deodorants are known to have aluminium which is very bad for our bodies. It is said to cause Alzheimers and is even rumored to cause breast cancer. The underarm skin has a lot of pores which actually absorbs whatever we put on there. People will ask for proof. I don't believe there will ever be concrete proof of the toxicity of these chemicals as the cosmetic industry is a trillion trillion dollar industry. They wouldn't let such research reach us because that would affect their business. haha my theory.

So, after experimenting with a few different natural deodorant alternatives, this is the one I loved best. I've been using this for about a month so I can now give a full review of it.

You only need one thing to make this deodorant.

Once I tell you the ingredient you will either a) officially think I'm crazy or
b) you'll never come back to my blog again

But, you have to try it. There's nothing to lose, right?

Okay, so the only thing you need is Apple cider vinegar. Yes, apple cider vinegar.

Take a small bottle and pour it in half way with ACV. Then fill the rest half with water or rose water. And, that's it. This is your deodorant. Pour it on a cotton pad and apply it directly to the underarms. Let your underarms dry for 20 sec.

You can get a pack of cotton pads from Panda, Careffour or really any supermarket or shop.

How does ACV work?
Without getting into really scientific explanations, I'll tell you why this works as a deodorant. First of all, sweat doesn't have any smell. It's the bacteria growth that causes sweat to smell. Sweat itself doesn't smell like anything. So, what commercial deodorants do is they 'mask' the bad smell. Antiperspirants actually block your sweat glands so you don't sweat at all. Obviously, antiperspirants are very bad for you. Sweating is a natural process, anything that stops our body's natural functions is bad.

So, what we want to do is get rid of the bacteria that is actually responsible for the bad smell. So, what ACV does is it cleans out the area and makes an unfavorable environment for bacteria growth.

No bacteria = no bad smell.
Pretty simple.

Will you smell like vinegar?
No, no and no. You will not smell like vinegar. The smell vanishes in 20 secs. Just apply, let it dry and no smell. This will not stain your clothes or anything. Once it dries it vanishes completely.

I would like to go into detail about my experience with this deo. If you get grossed out easily, you might want to stop reading.  After a few days of using ACV I noticed the skin of my underarms looked much lighter and even toned. I can now attest that ACV does even out skin tone. Another thing I've noticed is that I've not gotten any ingrown hair since the time I started using ACV. I absolutely love it. Alhamdullilah! No side effects at all.

What is the best way to apply it?
In the morning, wash the skin with soap and dry it. Then apply ACV with a cotton pad and you're good to go for the day. If you want to retouch during the day just pour a little on a cotton pad and apply it.

If you do try this come back and comment here and let me know your experience. :)
